Offline Maps
Offline maps are available in the Kurviger App. Offline maps allow you to view the map during the navigation without internet connection.
- The route calculation requires you to have an internet connection, but the navigation itself does not require an internet connection, when using offline maps.
- Offline maps are only available with an active Kurviger Tourer+ membership.
- Offline maps are currently only for the navigation, not for the route planning.
Download Maps
Offline Maps are very useful for locally storing map regions of areas where you normally ride or where you will be spending your next vacation.
- Tap on the
Kurviger iconin the top left and click onOffline Maps. - You will see the map divided into rectangular regions. Tap on a rectangle to select a region.
- Tap
Applyand the regions you selected will be downloaded.
Tip: To quickly select or deselect multiple regions, tap + to enable selection mode or – to enable deselection mode, then drag your finger across the map regions.
Tip The button with the small route symbol at the bottom right automatically selects all regions of your currently loaded route on the map.
Important to know
In rare cases, there may be issues when downloading a map region. If a problem occurs, the affected region will remain gray and show a spinner icon.
Please allow up to one minute after the download completes for the region to turn green.
If the issue persists, you can tap the region to select it for deletion, click Apply and then download it again.
Please note: We strongly recommend not downloading very large areas. Doing so may cause:
- Long download times
- Unnecessary storage usage on your device
- More complex map updates
- Potential performance issues
To avoid these problems, only download the areas you actually need. You can always add more regions later or use the auto download feature (see below) for navigation.
Auto Download for Routes
The automatic downloads help you when you enter an area during your ride where you have no reception.
Data usage: Only the regions along your route are downloaded, so in principle, the same data you would otherwise use while riding. Already existing maps are not downloaded again. Every time the route is recalculated or navigation starts, the download begins automatically in the background. This means that if you enter an area without network coverage, the map will remain visible.
You can deactivate this function at any time in the navigation settings.
Update Offline Maps
Once the downloaded maps have reached a certain age (currently 30 days), the Offline Maps Manager will offer an update button that you can select.
To update a map region before this time, you can delete the corresponding region and download it again.
Offline Maps Storage Location
The offline maps are stored internally in the app. Therefore, they are not visible as individual files on the smartphone and cannot be moved separately to an SD card.
To save the maps to an SD card, the entire app would have to be moved there. While this is technically possible, it may affect performance, depending on the device and SD card. We therefore advise against doing this unless you urgently need to free up additional storage space.
Deleting All Offline Maps
To delete all offline maps, go to Settings, scroll to Storage, tap Delete local data and then Delete offline maps.
If you have downloaded a lot of maps, it may take some time for the storage space to actually be freed up in the file system. If the storage space is not freed up after a while, repeat the deletion process.
