Route Export with Kurviger
Important to understand: You cannot simply transfer a route from one system to another like a photo that looks the same everywhere. This is because of how route data is structured. Because every navigation system calculates routes using its own algorithms, settings, and map data, there may be discrepancies.
➔ Our export feature helps you export your route so that it matches the route planned in Kurviger as closely as possible on your navigation device.
To export a route from Kurviger, simply click on the ⁝
menu and select Export
.
Select your Navigation Device
With Kurviger, you can easily select the navigation device for which you want to export your route. In the export, you will find a list in the Navigation devices
tab – select your device and Kurviger will automatically suggest the appropriate format and recommended settings.
If you are familiar with route transfer and know exactly what you need, you can also select a specific format and the appropriate specifications in the File format
tab.
Specify What to Export
Once you have selected your navigation device, the options suitable for your device will be displayed.
These include:
- Content
- Additional waypoints
Content (Track vs. Route)
Many navigation devices cannot import a route with waypoints and a track together. Either your device follows the exact route (track), or it calculates its own route between the waypoints (route).
Here you can read more about the difference between a route and a track.
Why can't I select neither a route nor a track for my navigation device? You have probably selected a navigation device that can only import one of the two.
Why can't I import both the route AND the track? You have probably selected a navigation device that cannot import tracks and routes together.
Additional Option for Modern Garmin Devices
For current Garmin models, there is an additional option called Embed Garmin route points.
This exports the route with Garmin-specific GPX information so that the route on the Garmin device still corresponds exactly to your planned route.
Note:
- Longer calculation time: This may cause the calculation on the Garmin to take longer.
- Disable recalculation: Automatic recalculation on the Garmin should be disabled, as otherwise the route may be significantly altered.
- No Tread transfer: The route cannot be transferred via the Tread app, as it removes important GPX extensions.
Additional Waypoints
When you load a route onto your navigation device, it recalculates the distance between the waypoints using its own algorithm. Additional waypoints can be added so that the navigation device deviates less from the originally planned route.
- None: The route consists only of the waypoints you have set yourself.
- Intelligent: Kurviger automatically places additional waypoints at strategically useful locations.
- Interval: You determine the distance at which additional waypoints are set.
Note: By definition, a track does not contain any waypoints, so additional waypoints can only be added with the Route
option.
Preview
The Kurviger export shows you a live preview so you can see what you are exporting.
- Track: red
- Route: blue
- Shaping points: black
- Via points: blue
The number of shaping points and via points is displayed at the bottom of the preview. You can zoom in and out of the map using +
and –
and enlarge (and reduce) the map window using the arrow symbol.
Why are my shaping points displayed as via points? Your navigation device probably cannot distinguish between shaping points and via points when importing. Therefore, all points are exported as via points.
