Map Overlay Manager
With the Overlay Manager in the Kurviger App and on Kurviger.de, you can easily manage and work with overlays in Kurviger. The overlays remain in Kurviger, independent of the route, and are synchronized with your Kurviger account, allowing you to use them on various devices.
What Is a Map Overlay?
A Map overlay
in Kurviger is a visual representation of additional information that is placed over the existing map – this can be waypoints, tracks, or entire routes.
- Overlays expand the map view by making additional details visible without changing the basic structure of the map.
- Overlays are used exclusively for visual display and do not directly influence route planning – unless this is explicitly specified when the file is loaded.
- Overlays allow for flexible use because different information sources can be combined and displayed without changing the actual route.
In sum, overlays allow you to customize the map according to your needs and to display exactly the information that is relevant for your route planning. This enables you to plan your route in a clear and optimized way, with all the important data visible at a glance.
What Can Be Displayed as an Overlay?
The Map Overlay Manager in Kurviger allows various content to be displayed as overlays:
- Files (e.g., GPX) - external POIs and external routes
- Currently planned route
- single Cloud routes
- entire Favorite folders
- entire Route folders (only for Kurviger Tourer and Tourer+)

or Cloud favorites
or select Current route
.
3. The desired overlay will now be visible on the map and will be shown in the list of the overlay manager.
As a Kurviger Tourer und Tourer+, you can display up to 15 overlays at the same time.
Hiding Map Overlays
With Kurviger, you can add a variety of map overlays to optimize your route planning. However, there may be times when you want to hide certain overlays to make the map clearer.
It's very simple! In the map overlay manager, next to each overlay is an eye
icon you can click to hide (or show) it. That way, you can easily control what’s visible on the map and quickly adjust the displayed information to your needs.
The advantage of hiding over deleting is that hiding is only a local action. For example, you can hide an overlay on your smartphone and still have it available on your desktop for planning.
Deleting Map Overlays
Deleting overlays is just as easy. In the map overlay manager, next to each overlay is a trash
icon you can click to delete the corresponding overlay. This way, you always have full control over your map view and can easily remove unwanted overlays.
Changing the Color of a Map Overlay
You can also change the color of the overlays. Click on the colored square to the left of the overlay. This will open a color selection, allowing you to choose the desired color for the overlay. This way, you can further customize your map view and highlight your overlays in the colors you want.
Importing POI Collections into Kurviger
With Kurviger, you can easily import external POI (Point of Interest) collections from GPX files as map overlays. POI collections can be anything from The most beautiful campsites in the Allgäu
, Top 10 Alpine passes
to My favorite ice cream parlors
.
You can import basically anything that is in a standard GPX file format.
Interesting sources include Passknacker.com and Alpenrouten.de. These collections contain many passes that you may want to include in your tour planning. Simply download a POI collection of your choice as a GPX file and import it into the map overlay manager in Kurviger.
(Tip: Kurviger itself also shows you many POIs, e.g., passes, accommodations, biker meeting places, and more)
