Voice Guidance

With the Kurviger app, you can navigate your planned routes directly and conveniently. The voice guidance is particularly practical, giving you clear instructions without you having to look at the display while driving. The voice guidance can also be individually optimized - so you can always stay focused and safe on the road during your trip.

Kurviger's voice-guided navigation provides complete turn-by-turn directions. You can enable voice guidance directly in the app settings or simply turn it on and off while navigating via the ⁝ menu.

Note that navigation is a Kurviger Tourer+ feature and that voice output is not available in the free Follow mode. Further details on the advantages of the premium features can be found here.

The Kurviger app for Android offers you the option of individually selecting the channel for voice guidance. This allows you to play the navigation prompts on a different channel from your music, for example, and adjust the volume of both independently of each other.

Kurviger uses the smartphone's built-in text-to-speech function to generate voice instructions. To save storage space, such standard voices are often very simple, sound unnatural and are difficult to understand. But there is an easy way to improve this!

The default voice of the speech output can be improved relatively easily on Android devices. To use a higher quality voice, simply go to the Android settings and follow these steps:

1. Open Accessibility → TalkBack → Settings → Text-to-speech

(For Samsung devices, you can also switch between “Samsung TTS” and “Google Speech Synthesis“)

2. (for Samsung TTS:) Click on the gear wheel to the right of the Preferred Engine and select your language
3. You can switch from standard voices to other voices using the gear wheel to the right of your language (please note that other voices than the standard voices are not available in all languages)

2. (for Google speech synthesis:) Click on the rear wheel to the right of the Preferred Engine, select “Install speech data” and then your language
3. Now you can choose between different voices.

After you have customized the settings, restart the Kurviger app to apply the changes. With this adjustment, the voice guidance sounds much more natural and pleasant.

The default voice for speech synthesis can be improved on iOS devices with just a few clicks. To use a higher-quality voice, simply go to the iOS settings and follow these steps:

1. Open Accessibility → Spoken Content → select your language
2. Download an “Enhanced” or “Premium” voice (please note that premium voices are not available in all languages)
3. Select this voice as the default voice for your language

After you have adjusted the settings, restart the Kurviger app to apply the changes.
